Indonesian presidential election, 1999

The first democratic presidential election in Indonesia was held on 20 October 1999. This presidential election was the last indirect presidential election in Indonesia. It was also the first presidential election that the candidate of ruling-party (Golkar) did not run for.

In this election, Abdurrahman Wahid (PKB) was elected and Megawati Soekarnoputri (PDI-P) was defeated. After the election, pro-Megawati people complained about the result of this election.
