The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City, Chittoor District Andhra Pradesh is one of the 20 new IIITs being set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, under the Public Private Partnership with AP government and Sri City consortium, with IIIT Hyderabad as the mentor institute. The IIIT campus at Sri City is spread over 70 acres.

History

On 18 March 2013, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India introduced a bill in the Parliament to establish 20 new Indian Institute of Information Technology's in different parts of the Country. As per the bill, MHRD will establish the 20 new IIITs under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode partnering with respective state governments and industry partners. The new IIITs are envisaged to be Institutes of National Importance. Aimed at generating highly competent manpower of global standards for the Information Technology Industry, the institutes are also expected to act as major catalyst to develop new knowledge in the field of Information Technology.

Indian Institute of Information Technology – Sri City, Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh is amongst the first batch of 5 new IIITs approved by MHRD.

About IIIT, Sri City, Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh

IIIT, Sri City, Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh is an autonomous institute setup in Public Private Partnership mode by MHRD (GoI), Government of Andhra Pradesh and Industry partners (represented by Sricity Foundation). The IIIT- Sri City is funded by Government of India (50%), Government of Andhra Pradesh (35%) and Industry Partners (15%). The first batch of the institute started functioning from the campus of International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad. For the Academic Year 2014-15 the Institute will operate from the Campus of Institute for Financial Management and Research at Sri City

Admissions

The admission to IIIT is through Central Seat allocation Board (CSAB). The students are allotted admission by CSAB based on their Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Main) ranks. The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City, Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh is listed in the CSAB website under List of participating institutes in Other Central Government / State Government Funded Technical Institutes.
