Iconic Towers are proposed 734 metres (2,408 ft) 142-story mega-tall skyscraper, and two 400 metres (1,312 ft) 71-story skyscrapers planned at a preliminary cost of US$3 billion. Upon completion in 2021, the Grand Iconic Tower will become the third tallest building in the world, as well as the tallest in the South Asian subcontinent.
The towers will be the centerpiece of country's largest real estate development known as Purbachal Financial District, located along the outskirt of Dhaka. The Financial District will also include a 70,000-seated state-of-art Purbachal International Cricket Arena. The creator and largest investor of the project is the North America-based conglomerate KPC Group.
Although reception of the proposal had mixed criticism, it has received high praise from many as a symbol of the country's emergence as an economic power of the 21st century. In October 2016, the developers officially announced the Financial District will be the first smart city of Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Government also announced its intention to move all Government agencies and embassies to the newly built district.
