Contents

The eldest son of the 20th Earl and Beryl Dugdale, he was educated at Eton and was a Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve from 1953. In 1955 he married Marigold Evans-Bevan of Wales, daughter of Sir David Evans-Bevan. They had two sons: James (b. 1958) and Alexander (b. 1962).

Birth

The earl was born Hon. Ian Lionel Malcolm Leslie on May 10th 1932 and was the son of earl Malcolm Leslie and countess Beryl Violet Dulgdale. Upon birth he became the master of Rothes, a title given to the heir of the Earldom upon birth. His grandfather was Norman Leslie who was dead at the time of his birth and his grandmother who survived the Titanic was still alive. That was his paternal grandmother, Noël, Countess of Rothes, who died 1955.

Earl of Rothes

Upon his fathers death in 1974 he became Earl of Rothes, he was a popular earl within Leslie and Glenrothes but the title was mostly honorary and had been hereditary for many years at that point. He was also appointed Lord Rothes and Lord Leslie at some point during his life. In 2003 however he moved to England.

Death

Lord Rothes died on 15 April 2005, aged 72, and was succeeded in the earldom by his eldest son, James. His son has currently had no children which means the earldom will be passed to his second eldest son Hon. Alexander Leslie.
