IP.com is an American Intellectual property software company based in Fairport, New York that provides custom intellectual property solutions, advanced discovery-and-analytics software, and online literature access for companies, professionals and educational or research institutions.

History

A privately-owned company founded in 2000, IP.com provides literatures, analytics and professional services to organizations all over the world. IP.com originally developed Prior Art Database – an online multilingual source of prior art disclosure and non-patent literatures that has been unique to the company since its founding in 2000. Along with its electronic and printed counterpart The IP.com Journal, Prior Art Database covers a wide selection of patents and non-patents that draw on several search techniques like the Boolean syntax and Concept Query.

With its first release in January 2001, The IP.com Journal provided its users access to more than 70 million documents that IP.com hosts. On August 14, 2005, IBM announced the addition of the IBM Technical Disclosure Bulletin (IBM TDB) files from the year 1958 until present to the Prior Art Database. Several government IP agencies such as the United States Coverage (USPTO), European Coverage (EPO), and World Intellectual Property have also added their publications to the Prior Art Database.

On 2011, IP.com and TextWise, its sister company and business partner, collaborated in the utilization of Semantic Gist technology that make use of linguistic knowledge to an adaptive cognitive retrieval search system, which then resulted in the IP.com’s InnovationQ to be launched in 2013. On October 17, 2013, IP.com procured Pantros IP, Inc., Pantros IP Holding AG, and IP Frontline AG. On September 21, 2014, Pantros IP (formerly Patent Café) merge sites with IP.com.

On Feb. 15, 2016 at Rochester, New York, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) added more than 3 million journals, periodicals, conferences, and standards to IP.com’s database and launched the InnovationQ Plus. Reminiscent of the original InnovationQ, InnovationQ Plus operates using the same neural network technology of TextWise’s Semantic Gist while accommodating a deeper knowledge in engineering from the said association.
