The ICE Demolition Protocol was produced by EnviroCentre, in partnership with London Remade, for the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Launched at the ICE in November 2003, it has subsequently been referenced in planning guidance in both England and Scotland, at both national and local levels.

Following the launch its dissemination and adoption has been supported by the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP), with the production of guides for different target audiences, including policy-makers, development teams, contractors and suppliers.

A resource efficiency methodology, the Protocol shows how the production of demolition material can be linked to its specification and procurement as a high value material in new builds. In addition, it shows how resource efficiency can be driven through the planning process, for example through Supplementary Planning Documents, Planning Agreements & Conditions.

It provides a framework for delivering on sustainable construction.
