"I Know What Boys Like" is a song written by guitarist Chris Butler in 1978, while he was still a member of the rock band Tin Huey.

It was recorded by Butler and released as a single in 1980, but beyond some club success, it did not appear on any charts. When he formed the band The Waitresses, with Patty Donahue as lead vocalist, the band recorded the song for its debut album, Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful?, released by Polydor Records in 1981.

"I Know What Boys Like" was released as a single from the album in 1982. VH1 named the song as the 82nd greatest one-hit wonder of all-time in 2002 as well as the 34th greatest one-hit wonder of the 1980s in 2009 despite peaking at 62nd on the Billboard Hot 100.

  • The song was used in the soundtrack to the 1982 film The Last American Virgin.
  • The song was covered by Tracey Ullman on her 1984 album You Caught Me Out.
  • It appeared on the soundtrack to the 1987 film I Was a Teenage Zombie.
  • Girl band Shampoo covered the song on their 1995 album Girl Power.
  • The song was covered by Vitamin C for her 2001 album More. She also performed the song on the The Comedy Network/MTV sitcom The Sausage Factory.
  • The song was used in the third episode of the fifth season of Nip/Tuck called "Everett Poe" in 2007.
  • The song was used in an episode of Family Guy called "Boys Do Cry" (2007) where Herbert plays the church organ singing the song.
  • Amanda Lepore recorded a cover of the song for the 2006 film Another Gay Movie.
  • Katharine McPhee recorded a cover version in 2008 with guest raps from Kat Dennings, Emma Stone, and Rumer Willis, coinciding with her appearance in the 2008 film The House Bunny.
  • The Hit Crew cover version features in Californication Series 4 Episode 4.
