Hypatima tephroptila is a moth in the Gelechiidae family. It was described by Meyrick in 1931. It is found in southern India.

The wingspan is about 15 mm. The forewings are whitish irrorated light fuscous and with a short fine black line from the base beneath the costa. A dark fuscous triangular patch extends on the costa from one-fifth to five-sixth, its apex almost reaching the dorsum in the middle, with two large discal tufts within its anterior edge, two others beyond these, and two at three-fourths, of which the lower falls outside the patch, these tufts tipped leaden-grey. The hindwings are light grey, thinly scaled and purplish-subhyaline in the disc and with the veins grey.
