Hydesville tower school

Hydesville Tower School is a coeducational independent school located in Walsall in the West Midlands, England. The school is owned and operated by Cognita, an international schools group chaired by Sir Chris Woodhead, former chief inspector of schools.

Hydesville Tower School, which overlooks Walsall Arboretum, was established in 1952. It comprises a nursery, prep school and senior school and is the only coeducational independent school in Walsall to offer secondary education. In 2012 the school achieved 100 per cent A*-C GCSE grades.

Most children attending the school start at Nursery level, (aged three), though students are accepted in subsequent years, subject to places becoming available.

A notable number of Hydesville's Year 5 pupils sit the 11 Plus examination and as such verbal and non verbal reasoning are taught. Destination schools for Year 6 leavers include those within the consortium of grammar schools in Birmingham and consortium of grammar schools for Shropshire, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

The school curriculum includes the core subjects of English, mathematics and science, French, German, geography, history, design and technology, art, business studies, ICT, religious studies, music and physical education. The PE department makes use of the sports facilities at the nearby Walsall Campus of the University of Wolverhampton. Elocution is part of the Prep School timetable and personal, social and health education (PSHE) is delivered to pupils in the senior school.

In addition there is a varied programme of extracurricular activities from forensic science classes to ballet, karate and coaching through Walsall Football Club.

A limited number of scholarships and means tested bursaries are available each year.

Open events are held throughout the year, usually in March, May and November, where prospective parents are invited to visit, take a tour of the school and meet staff.

Paralympic gold medallist Ellie Simmonds attended the school.
