Small RNAs are found in eukaryotic organisms with several functions related to gene expression regulation by degradation of mRNA or silencing of genes by metilation. Piwi-interacting RNA (piRNA) is the most abundant class of the small RNAs varying from 26 to 31 nucleotides, and show a great diversity in your sequences.

Studies with some cancer strains are still being realized and prove more informations about a biological function that can be indirectly associated with these piRNAs, the apoptosis. One of the research lines it is about the activation of pro-survival factors by the Piwi proteins

This piRNA, have 25 perfect alignments to the human genome build 38. In which one of these alignments is over to the BRCA2 gene, so, it can be designated a target to this gene. About the BRCA2 gene, it is famous because of know associations with breast câncer and there are several papers published about this gene.

So, the Human piRNA 4346 because of your relation with silencing of some genes and their products can be associated with some development mechanism of cancer.

More informations about this and others piRNAs can be found on piRNA DB
