Honorary citizen (Korean: 명예국민) is an honour is bestowed by the Minister of Justice on foreigners of exceptional merit. It is a symbolic honour; the recipient does not take the Oath of Citizenship and thus does not receive any rights, privileges, or duties typically held by a Korean citizen.
However, Korean Honorary Citizen can enjoy specialized immigration privileges under Ordinances from the Minister of Justice.
Martine Prost was given special permission by the Minister of Justice to become honorary citizen for her contribution on returning les manuscripts coréens from France.
As of Nov 20, 2015, there is only one Honorary Citizen of South Korea, Guus Hiddink.
