"Hold My Liquor" is a song by American hip hop recording artist Kanye West, taken from his sixth solo studio album Yeezus (2013). It was produced by West, Mike Dean and Noah Goldstein. The song features additional vocals from Chief Keef and Justin Vernon. It peaked at number 32 on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs following the album's release.
Critical reception
Lou Reed has given the song a positive review saying: "Hold My Liquor is just heartbreaking, and particularly coming from where it's coming from – listen to that incredibly poignant hook from a tough guy like Chief Keef."
Andrew Unterberger from Popdust also praised the song saying: "The song is both far longer and far less musically frenetic than any on the album to that point, with pulsating synths and Ratatat-like guitar work laid over a slow-but-steady four/four beat, sounding almost like an instrumental that could’ve been on the Drive soundtrack. Kanye’s sole verse in the song is the obvious highlight, with added stabs of metallic distortion augmenting his typically piercing lyrics about substance abuse issues mixed with relationship issues mixed with general self-image issues, somehow sneaking in references to Deepak Chopra and 2Pac in the process."
