Hippocampus Press is an American publisher of fantasy, horror and science fiction, and specializes in classic horror and science fiction with an "emphasis on the works of H. P. Lovecraft and other pulp writers of the 1920s and 1930s" as well as in reprints or first editions of work by authors such as H. P. Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith. One of its major projects is the 5-volume set of Lovecraft's Collected Essays.
It has also published fiction by Lord Dunsany (The Pleasures of a Futuroscope) and Algernon Blackwood (Incredible Adventures), as well as the "Lovecraft's Library" series of books which Lovecraft enjoyed or was influenced by, but which have fallen out of fashion since his time.
Hippocampus Press publishes a wide range of fiction (John Langan, Richard Gavin, Simon Strantzas, Joseph S. Pulver, W. H. Pugmire, etc.), non-fiction and critical work (Thomas Ligotti, S.T. Joshi, William F. Nolan, etc.) and poetry (Clark Ashton Smith), (Robert H. Barlow), George Sterling, Samuel Loveman, (Donald Wandrei, K. A. Opperman, R. Nemo Hill, Ann K. Schwader, etc.).
The firm also publishes the periodicals Dead Reckonings: A Critical Journal of the Horror Field, Lovecraft Annual and Spectral Realms (devpoted to weird and fantastic verse)
Hippocampus Press was co-winner with Bad Moon Books of the Horror Writers Association's 2011 Specialty Press Award.
In 2014, Publishers Weekly magazine called Hippocampus Press "the world’s leading publisher of books related to horror writer H. P. Lovecraft."
