Himalayan is the first adventure bike made by Royal Enfield, first previewed in February 2015 and launched in 2016. Pierre Terblanche led the design team during Himalayan's development.

Himalayan is powered by Royal Enfield's all-new LS410 engine (LS for long stroke), with 411 cc displacement and a peak power of 24.5 bhp@6500 rpm (18.02KW) and a maximum torque of 32 Nm@4000-4500 rpm. LS410 is a single-cylinder, air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC engine. An oil cooler has been added for improved cooling. Fueling is via carburetor. Transmission is 5-speed constant mesh unit.

Himalayan features a half-duplex split cradle frame with long-travel front telescopic and monoshock rear suspension. Front telescopes are 41 mm with 200 mm of travel. Rear offers 180 mm suspension travel. All together offers a ground clearance of 220 mm.

Himalayan sports 21 inch front and 17 inch rear wheels shod with 90/90-21 and 120/90-17 dual-sport tyres respectively, specifically made by CEAT.

Himalayan comes with 300 mm disc and 240 mm disc at rear.
Speedometer instrumentation includes a digital compass and temperature gauge in addition to tachometer and gear indicator. Speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge are analog with the rest completely digital.

Key features includes luggage carrier, high windshield, upswept exhaust, sump guard, LED tail lamps, hazard lights, LED park lights, etc.

Himalayan comes with a wide array of accessories for tourers including pannier box, mounts for jerry can and custom mountable jerry cans.
It soon discovered that the motorcycle has many flaws in its engine and transmission. The company is fixing them all at no cost silently recalling the faulty ones.
