Hiking apparel is clothing suitable for hiking. This could include pants, sweaters, underwear, and even hiking boots. Today's hiking apparel is more advanced than previous years, having material that can be wind resistant, water-repellent, lightweight and yet breathable at the same time. Some hiking apparel is designed to allow your body to breathe, whilst protecting you from the weather, and drawing moisture away from your body. Today's hiking boots have been designed to give maximum ankle support, durability whilst being lightweight. Many of today's hiking boots have a hardened rubber sole to help them last. Selection of hiking apparel should be tailored to suit the predicted conditions of the weather, including the hiking apparel's UPF rating (Ultraviolet Protection Factor), weight, water and wind resistance. Generally three layers of apparel are worn on a hike, the first being mostly of synthetic material drawing moisture from the body, the second being of material with high thermal insulation capacity, and the third being of wind or water resistant material.
