In 1864, Maturin represented the Gentlemen of the South in a single match against the Gentlemen of the North. That same season, Maturin made his first-class debut for Hampshire against Middlesex (now a county club). Maturin continued to play for Hampshire in every season from 1864 to 1867, with his final game in 1867 against Kent.

Nine years after his final appearance for Hampshire, Maturin returned in 1876 to play for the county in a first-class match against Kent. Six years later, Maturin played his final first-class match, representing Hampshire in a match against the Marylebone Cricket Club.

In his first-class career, Maturin scored 178 runs at a batting average of 9.88 and a high score of 28. With the ball Maturin took eight wickets at a bowling average of 33.50, with best figures of 4/68.
