Henry C. Gonzalez is a city council member in South Gate, California, USA. He has served as mayor on several occasions.

Gonzalez has served on the South Gate City Council for 20 years, as he was first elected in 1982. He became the first Latino to be elected to the council as well as the mayoral position, which he attained one year later in 1983. He returned in 1994, and has been re-elected three times since. He has been the mayor in 1983, 1987, 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2009.

Gonzalez is past President of the South Gate Rotary Club, and he organized and founded the South Gate High School Booster Club in 1974. He is serving his 35th consecutive year as president. He has been a member of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement for over twenty years and served as National President from 1996-2000]. Gonzalez has also been Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the Labor Ad Hoc Committee for Plaza de La Raza, located in Lincoln Park (Los Angeles) and served on the Executive Boards of Plaza de La Raza and TELACU (a community development corporation) in the late 1970s and is also a retired member of the UAW International Union. Gonzalez was awarded the Siempre Juntos Award in December 2000.

Gonzalez has been married to his wife Theresa since 1956 and they have resided in South Gate since 1961. They have two children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.
