Heinz Bevernis (11 December 1914 – 19 July 1942) was a highly decorated Leutnant in the Luftwaffe during World War II, and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Heinz Bevernis was killed on 19 July 1942 by Soviet forces over Staraya Russa, Russia, killed alongside him was his pilot and fellow Knight's Cross recipient Hauptmann Hartmut Schairer. Heinz Bevernis was posthumously awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross on 19 September 1942.
