Heavy Metal Thunder is a greatest hits album by heavy metal band Saxon, released in 2002. The album features eight re-recorded tracks from the limited edition of Killing Ground, as well as five other tracks. These tracks originally appeared on their first six albums, from their self-titled debut to Crusader.

A limited edition bonus disc, featuring five live tracks from a 2002 show in San Antonio, Texas, as well as the music video for Killing Ground recorded during Wacken Open Air 2001.
Track listing
The album was re-issued on February 14, 2015 by UDR. Disc 1 is identical to the original release. All tracks from Disc 2 were recorded live at the Bloodstock Heavy Metal Festival on August 10, 2014.
Lyrical concepts
- "Crusader" is about the warriors of the Crusades.
- "Dallas 1 PM" is about the assassination of John Kennedy.
- "Princess of the Night" is about the death of the age of steam, written by Byford after watching trains at Denby Dale railway station.
- "Wheels of Steel" is about the band's '68 Chevy they used to drive to each show in (see Strong Arm of the Law for another track that involves said car).
- "Denim and Leather" is about the evolution of the new wave of British heavy metal; the title a nod to the attire worn by Saxon's fans.
- "Never Surrender" is about determination.
- "And the Bands Played On" is about the inaugural Monsters of Rock festival.
- "Power and the Glory" is about the power and the glory of battle.
- "Motorcycle Man" is about a man owning a motorcycle.
- "Backs to the Wall" is about loitering.
