Hayward House (Colchester, Connecticut)

Location

9 Hayward Ave., Colchester, Connecticut

The Hayward House is a historic house at 9 Hayward Avenue in Colchester, Connecticut. It is a large three-story wood frame structure with a gambrel roof, a large central chimney, and a single-story porch extending across the front. Although it was built c. 1775, it has a number of late 19th century Victorian embellishments.

The house was the home of 19th-century inventor Nathaniel Hayward, the founder and principal owner of the Hayward Rubber Company, and the developer of the process of vulcanizing rubber.

The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
