Sealed Now

KARACHI: The primary branch of Hassan Tayyab Academy, Hussainabad, was sealed on Thursday by the Directorate of Inspections of Private Schools and Colleges director-general, Dr Mansoob Hussain Siddiqui, after an enquiry report revealed that the school is illegal and unregistered.

The letter, issued by the directorate of schools, stated that the owner of the school was running the institute without registration. The directorate of school office also received many complaints of corporal punishment meted out to students by their teachers.

The school has two campuses, primary and secondary, Siddiqui told The Express Tribune. Only the secondary campus is registered with us, while the primary one was not, he claimed.

The decision to seal the school was taken after the enquiry committee submitted its report on January 6. The enquiry was conducted after several complaints were received. The school will reopen once it completes the registration process, said Siddiqui.

Viral video

A three-minute video clip, aired on television channels on Tuesday, shows the principal torturing a female and some male students of class two in front of the entire class.

Siddiqui said they are probing the matter as they found out that the parents of the female students asked the principal to punish their daughter for being disobedient. “The video was shot in September after the student misbehaved with the class teacher,” he claimed.
