Harriet quickly became part of the social fabric of Kingston and, because of her husband's work with Archdeacon George Okill Stuart, she was drawn into charity work. She joined the Female Benevolent Society which provided much needed assistance for the sick and their families. This organization became a lifelong commitment to the FBS and its worthwhile causes.
