Reception
Michael Cragg of the Daily Mirror gave "Happily" two out of five stars and wrote: "It's got those Lumineers' 'hey' bits that everyone seems to be copying, and there's another whiff of folk-rock in the chorus. There's a slightly odd lyric in the second verse that runs, 'if he feels my traces in your hair'. Blimey." Writing for Billboard, Chris Payne said that the 1D boys "sing and stomp along in unison to a giant chorus about trying to win someone back. Regardless of your opinion on Mumford, the Lumineers, and their influence, there's no denying this is one of the album's catchiest songs."
Other uses
The song is used as the theme song for the Japanese movie Say "I love you", which was released in Japan on 12 July 2014.
