Hangzhou or Hang Prefecture was a zhou (prefecture) in imperial China in modern Zhejiang, China, centering on modern Hangzhou. It was the capital of the Wuyue kingdom in the 10th century. It existed (intermittently) from 589 until 1129, when it became Lin'an Prefecture, the capital of the Song dynasty.
The modern sub-provincial city of Hangzhou retains its name.
