Hamtic, officially the Municipality of Hamtic (Karay-a: Banwa kang Hamtic; Hiligaynon: Banwa sang Hamtic; Filipino: Bayan ng Hamtic), is a municipality in the province of Antique in the Western Visayas (Region VI) of the Philippines. The population was 48,592 at the 2015 census. In the 2016 electoral roll, it had 25,076 registered voters.

Hamtic was formerly named Antique, after which the province was named. It is the oldest town and the first capital of the province before it was transferred to San Jose de Buenavista in 1802.

Geography

Hamtic is located at 10°42′N 121°59′E.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the municipality has a land area of 113.03 square kilometres (43.64 sq mi) constituting 7000414009999999999♠4.14% of the 2,729.17-square-kilometre- (1,053.74 sq mi) total area of Antique.

In the 2015 census, Hamtic had a population of 48,592. The population density was 430 inhabitants per square kilometre (1,100/sq mi).
