The Hamburg state election, 2001, was conducted on September 23, 2001, to elect members to the Hamburgische Bürgerschaft (state and city legislature) of Hamburg. It was the 17th legislative period of the parliament.
Post-election
Ole von Beust (CDU) was able to form a controversial coalition-government with the centre-right FDP and the populist conservative Offensive from Ronald Schill. He was elected as first mayor instead of Ortwin Runde (SPD), who had been mayor since 1997.
