In 2000, Bastard and Emilio E. Mendez won the International Symposium on Compound Semiconductors Quantum Device Award "for pioneering work on electric-field induced optic effects in quantum wells and superlattices (quantum-confined Stark effect and Wannier–Stark localization)".
