The Guenter Loeser Memorial Award honors the late scientist who lost his life while doing meteorological research for the United States Air Force in 1953. Loeser died in a helicopter crash in Nebraska while conducting the Great Plains Turbulence Field Program.

The award is presented annually by the Air Force Geophysics Laboratory (formerly the Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories) for an outstanding research contribution. Recipients present a lecture on a topic of scientific interest.
