Cacahuamilpa's Grottos (Grutas de Cacahuamilpa in spanish) is an oil painting made and finished in 18035 by Jean-Baptiste Louis Gros, after his second visit to the grottos.
Features
The picture, of naturalist style, represent a grotto in Grutas de Cacahuamilpa National Park, located in Guerrero, a Mexico state. It shows the contrast among the small and big figures, the people who are sitting and standing, and they are using the rocks as a table. As many other pictures of the period, due to the naturalist style, this picture is considered a cientific reference for the study of nature, since represents with great detail the grotto. The chiaroscuro of the place was managed by an artificial illumination made by the expeditioners. Jean Baptiste Louis Gros managed to give it a romantic style.
