The inaugural Greater Manchester mayoral election will be held on 4 May 2017 to elect the Mayor of Greater Manchester. Subsequent elections will be held in May 2020 and then every four years after that.

The electoral system for the election will be supplementary vote (SV).

Conservative Party

  • Sean Anstee, Trafford Council Leader.
  • Liberal Democrats

  • Jane Brophy is a Trafford councillor representing Timperley. Brophy is pro-EU and works in the NHS. She is in favour of preserving the greenbelt around Manchester.
  • Labour Party

  • Andy Burnham, MP for Leigh since 2001, Shadow Home Secretary 2015–16, former Shadow Secretary of State for Health from 2011–2015 and former Secretary of State for Health from 2009–2010.
  • UKIP

  • Shneur Odze, former North West England European Parliament candidate.
  • Green Party

  • Deyika Nzeribe was selected as the Green Party candidate. However, he died of heart attack on 1 January 2017. Will Patterson was selected as the Green Party's new mayoral candidate.
  • English Democrats

  • Stephen Morris, General Secretary of the Workers of England Union and North West Chairman of the English Democrats.
  • Communist League

  • Peter Clifford was selected as the Communist League candidate.
  • Independent

  • Marcus Farmer – local businessman.
  • Potential

  • Jim O'Neill, economist and former chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management.
