The great spinetail (Synallaxis hypochondriaca) is a species of bird in the Furnariidae family. It had been considered monotypic within the genus Siptornopsis., however in 2012 the SACC included it in the genus Synallaxis based on studies by Derryberry (2011). It is endemic to Peru. Its natural habitat is Mediterranean-type shrubby vegetation. It is threatened by habitat loss.
