The Grand Master of the Order of St Michael and St George is the next most senior officer after the Sovereign of the Order, currently Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

There have been nine Grand Masters since the order was founded in 1818. These are:

  • 1818–1825: Sir Thomas Maitland
  • 1825–1850: The 1st Duke of Cambridge
  • 1850–1904: The 2nd Duke of Cambridge
  • 1904–1910: The Prince George, Prince of Wales (King George V)
  • 1910–1917: (vacant)
  • 1917–1936: The Prince of Wales (King Edward VIII, The Duke of Windsor)
  • 1936–1957: The Rt Hon. The Earl of Athlone
  • 1957–1959: The Rt Hon. The Earl of Halifax
  • 1959–1967: The Rt Hon. The Earl Alexander of Tunis
  • 1967–present: HRH The Duke of Kent
