Gopalganj (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (Hindi: गोपालगंज विधान सभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र) is an assembly constituency in Gopalganj district in the Indian state of Bihar. In Bihar Legislative Assembly election, 2015, Gopalganj will be one of the 36 seats to have VVPAT enabled electronic voting machines.

Overview

As per Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies Order, 2008, No. 101 Gopalganj (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is composed of the following: Gopalganj and Thawe community development blocks; Bairia Durg, Uchkagaon, Chhotka Sankhe, Harpur, Sakhekhas, Parsauni Khas, Nawada Parsauni, Luhsi, Jhirwa and Dahibhata gram panchayats of Uchkagaon CD Block.

Gopalganj (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 17 Gopalganj (Lok Sabha constituency) (SC).

1977-2010

In the 2010 and October 2005 state assembly elections, Subhas Singh of BJP won the Gopalganj assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Reyazul Haque of RJD. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Reyazul Haque representing BSP defeated Subhas Singh representing LJP in February 2005. Anirudh Prasad (Sadhu Yadav) of RJD defeated Subhas Singh representing BPSP in 2000. Ramawtar of JD defeated Putul Debi of Congress in 1995. of JD defeated Ambika Prasad Yadawa, Independent, in 1990. Surendra Singh, Independent, defeated Ambika Prasad Yadawa of LD in 1985. Kali Prasad Pandey, Independent, defeated Jagat Narain Singh of Congress(U) in 1980. Radhika Devi of JP defeated Kali Prasad Pandey, Independent in 1977. The former Chief Minister of Bihar Shri Satyendra Narain Sinha represented this Constituency in second Vidhan sabha.
