Gnophaela clappiana is a moth of the Erebidae family. It was described by Holland in 1891. It is found from Arizona and New Mexico to Colorado.
The length of the forewings is 21–25 mm. Adults are on wing from late July to early August.
The larvae have a shining dark maroon head. In the mid-dorsal line of the body, there is a row of bright yellow triangles. Lateral to this is a row of large warty double tubercles of a glistening steel-blue colour, each with a tuft of hairs. Between these tubercles is a patch of velvety dull black. There are also a number of yellow lines and steel-blue tubercles.
