Legend
According to Hindu legend, Shiva appeared to Sambandar in the guise of a shepherd at this spot.
Significance
Sambandar has sung hymns in praise of the temple in his Thevaram. There are also shrines to Vinayaka, Brahmandeswara and Brahmandeswari.
