Global Islamic Finance Awards (also known as "GIFA") are one of the most prestigious awards in Islamic banking and finance. Other prestigious awards are Islamic Development Bank Prize in Islamic Banking and Finance (also known as "IDB Prize") and The Royal Award For Islamic Finance, founded by the government of Malaysia. GIFA was founded by Professor Humayon Dar, who has also founded a number of initiatives in Islamic banking and finance, including Global Islamic Finance Report, Islamic Finance Review (ISFIRE), and an online blog for Islamic economics and finance called Islamic Economist.

Since the inception of GIFA in 2011, it has announced five GIFA Laureates (the recipients of the prestigious Global Islamic Finance Leadership Awards), including:

  1. HE Tun Abdullah Badawi, Former Prime Minister of Malaysia - 2011
  2. HRH Sultan Nazrin Shah of the Malaysian State of Perak - 2012
  3. HE Shaukat Aziz, Former Prime Minister of Pakistan - 2013
  4. HE Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - 2014
  5. HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II, Emir of Kano, Nigeria - 2015
  6. HE Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia - 2016

  • HE Najib Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia
  • His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister & Vice President of UAE
  • The GIFA 2017 ceremony is expected to take place in September 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
