There was a UK by-election for Glasgow Bridgeton (UK Parliament constituency) in November 1961.

Labour retained the seat, with James Bennett becoming the MP.

It was significant in that it was one of the first elections in which the Scottish National Party achieved a significant vote of 19%, only narrowly beaten by the Unionist for second place. Although this was not exceptional and did not receive much attention at the time, it was the forerunner of more serious electoral success later in the 1960s.
