Gita Swaminathan (born February 12, 1985-Tamil: கீதா சுவாமிநாதன்) is a veena exponent of traditional Carnatic music, popularly known as "Veenai Gita". She is also a physician in Linkoping, Sweden.

Early life

Her parents were Swaminathan Selleswamy Kurukkal and Nalini Swaminathan. She started playing veena at age 15 Gita learned western piano from Kaj Verner Baekdal from 1993 until 1999. She trained under Mrs.Kumudhini Prithviraj thereafter. In 2006 she learned veena from Subathra Raguram. In 2007 she was introduced to RS Jayalakshmi and Kamala Vaidyanathan. In 2009 she was introduced to Kamala Aswathama. She continues to study with Kumudhini Prithviraj, RS Jayalaksmi and Aswathama.
