Gevorg Volodya Petrosyan (Armenian: Գևորգ Վոլոդյայի Պետրոսյան, born in Yerevan on September 4, 1972 is an Armenian lawyer and politician, former Minister of Labor and Social Affairs.

Biography

In 1989, he finished secondary school № 170 in Yerevan.

He studied at the YSU Faculty of Law in the years 1990 to 1995 with excellent performance.

In 1995, Petrosyan took part in the military training assemblies and received the military rank of an officer.

In 1995, he entered YSU Postgraduate course. He has been teaching at the Faculty of Law, Yerevan State University since 1996 until now.

In 1998, Gevorg Petrosyan defended his thesis and got his PHD Degree in Law and was appointed assistant (qualified lecturer) at YSU Chair of Civil Law.

He has been a member of RA Bar Association since 1998.

In the years 1996 to 2001, Gevorg Petrosyan was the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Yerevan University after Grigor Zohrap.

In 2003, he was elected associate professor of the Faculty of Law, Chair of Civic Procedure, Yerevan State University.

In the period 2002 to 2005, Petrosyan headed the Department of Social Sciences at “Mkhitar Gosh” Armenian-Russian International University in Vanadzor.

In 2004-2005, he worked as Advisor to the Head of the Community at Nor Nork Municipality, later on as Chief of Staff. From 2005 to 2009, Gevorg Petrosyan worked Jurisconsult to the Direct General at “Armentel” CJSC, later as senior expert on Labor Law Affairs. In 2007-2008, he worked at the RA Control Chamber as Head of the Legal Supervision Department.

He is the coauthor of school textbooks “State and Fundamentals of Law” (1998) and “State and Law” (2001), and the author of the university textbook “Labor Law in the Republic of Armenia”(2009). He is the author of more than two dozens of scholarly articles and publications. Petrosyan has been a member of “Bargavach Hayastan” Party (Prosperous Armenia) since 2006.

In 2007, he was elected (in 2009 reelected) member of the “Bargavach Hayastan” Political Party.

Gevorg Petrosyan was appointed the RA Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, according to the RA President’s №:NH-119-A Decree made on May 12, 2009.

He is married and has three children.

The RA Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Gevorg Petrosyan was dismissed from office, according to the RA President’s №: NH-288 –A Decree made on November 23, 2009.
