George Clancy (born 12 January 1977) has refereed 46 International Rugby Union tests, and refereed at the 2011 and 2015 Rugby World Cups.

He has also refereed 65 European Cup games (4th on the all-time list), 17 European Challenge Cup games (including the 2009 & 2011 finals) and 90 Pro 12 games, as well as refereeing at two Junior World Cups and the Hong Kong, Paris and London 7s.

Career highlights include the Opening Game of the 2011 RWC (NZ V Tonga), 10 Six Nations games (including the epic Wales v Scotland 2010 [1] clash when Wales came from 10 points down in the closing stages to win by 7, England V France 2011, and awarded a penalty try for Italy to beat Scotland in Murrayfield in 2015 [2]) and 5 Rugby Championship games (including New Zealand V South Africa, twice). In addition to his 47 tests as a referee, he has been Assistant Referee for another 55 tests, bringing his tally for match official international tests to 102.

George Clancy is a member of Bruff RFC and began refereeing with the Munster Association of Referees in 2000. He was appointed to the Irish National Panel in 2003 and refereed his first professional game, Borders v Dragons, in October 2004. Quickly moving through the ranks, he made his debut in the European Cup in January 2005 (Bourgoin v Bath) and after appearing at the 2005 & 2006 Junior World Cups, made his International debut with a World Cup qualifier game in Montivideo between Uruguay and USA.

He is a tax official with the Irish Revenue Commissioners. He played GAA for Bruff and represented Limerick at minor hurling level.
