Genome Institute of Singapore

The Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS) is a research institute of Singapore, located in the Biopolis.

GIS was founded in 2001 by Edison Liu, who became the Institute's executive director. GIS was a formed around the Singapore Genomics Program (SGP), which was established in 2000 by Kong Hwai Loong at the behest of Philip Yeo.

The goal of the institute is to use genomic sciences to improve public health and public prosperity.

In 2016, GIS opened the PerkinElmer-GIS Center for Precision Oncology as a joint venture with PerkinElmer.

The GIS scientific advisory board includes Professor Morris Birnbaum, Professor Edward Rubin, Professor Pavel A. Pevzner and Professor Nicholas J. Schork.
