Created on 14 February 2013 in the footsteps of a host of popular "confessions" pages hosted on Facebook, Gay SG Confessions is a Singapore-based LGBT-focused confessions page that hosts a collection of anonymous user-contributed personal stories regarding gay issues such as coming out to family and friends, dealing with social acceptance and rejection, sexual health and emotional well-being education as well as gay relationship troubles.

Background

What was originally an online fad for local students venting their gripes about school life, the LGBT community in Singapore reacted well to the new anonymous submission platform as it published over 500 confessions or posts in less than 2 weeks. The site is run by an anonymous moderator, an account director in an advertising firm in his 30s who wants to be known only as "GC". Similar to other confession pages, entries are collected via a Google Docs form and manually posted onto the Facebook page as "status updates". While readers react in the form of "Likes" and comments, not all reception of the page has been positive. On 21 May 2013, the page received and published a deluge of anti-gay hate posts.
