Career

Before starting a career as comic artist, Rodriguez studied Architecture at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile where he got his degree and also a M.Arch. There is a very small -if any- comic industry in Chile (their market being so small, among other reasons) so trying to make a living out of this was not an option: Gabriel had to work part-time as architect and drew comics for art's sake or some extra income. His first commission was a set of illustrations for "Mitos y Leyendas" (Myths and Legends), a collectible cards game by SALO Publishing, Chile. Rodriguez spent 4 years working for them until he got a call from the producers of the CSI TV series and IDW publishing crew. Basically they wanted him to make a comic version of the series. After 5 years of successful collaboration Gabriel was finally able to make comics full-time.

Later on he was introduced to Joe Hill, author and son of Stephen King. Together they spawned the successful 'Locke & Key' series, which earned Gabriel his first Eisner Awards nomination. After that, Rodriguez was commissioned by DC to draw Adventures of Superman (2013) and IDW's Little Nemo, Return to Slumberland, which earned him another Eisner Awards nomination.
