Contents

The Group is headquartered in Chester, United Kingdom and has offices in London, Edinburgh and Nottingham.

History

GBGroup was established in 1989 initially as GB Information Management, to exploit the market for postcode and address information. In addition to software products, GB Information Management also provided bureau services relating to postcodes, names, addresses and other information. In July 1999 GB Information Management was acquired by Phonelink, a company founded by Trevor Burke. At the time of acquisition, GB Information Management had a turnover of £6.9million, an operating profit of circa £1million and employed about 80 people in Chester.

On 1 April 2000, the company changed its name from Phonelink plc to TelMe.com plc in response to the success of their early Tel-Me application. In February 2004, the company changed its name to GB Group as part of a movement to distance itself from its previous travel interests.

Acquisitions

In 2011 GBGroup acquired the Edinburgh-based company Data Discoveries, providers of online database cleansing software. This was followed by the acquisition of address management company Capscan, one of the founding members of the Scandex Group of companies.

In 2011 GBG also acquired Glasgow based Advanced Checking Services Limited. The company, which had more than 400 clients at the time including Stagecoach and FedEx, specialised in the electronic checking of driving licences. In 2012 the Group acquired two further companies in the driving licence and criminal record checking areas. These were Nottingham-based TMG CRB and CRD UK, a people vetting solutions firm. These acquisitions made GBGroup the UK’s largest criminal records disclosure umbrella service.
