Front-facing camera

A front-facing camera, or selfie camera, is a feature of cameras, mobile phones, smartphones, tablets and similar mobile devices that allows taking a self-portrait photograph or video while looking at the display of the device, usually showing a live preview of the image. Front-facing cameras are therefore an important development for videotelephony and the taking of selfies.

History

Several mobile phones released in late 2003 introduced front-facing cameras, including the Sony Ericsson Z1010 and Motorola A835.

The iPhone 4, released in 2010, was the first iPhone to include a front-facing camera module.
