French constitutional referendum, May 1946

A constitutional referendum was held in France on 5 May 1946. Voters were asked whether they approved of a new constitution proposed by the National Assembly elected in 1945. Moderates, Radicals, and the Popular Republican Movement (MRP) campaigned against the referendum. It was rejected by 52.8% of voters, with a turnout of 79.6%. Subsequently, a revised proposal was approved in a further referendum in October.
