Freddie L. Rankin II

Freddie L. Rankin II (born 1988) is a Memphis-born visual artist, who now lives between Boston and New York City. Self-taught, Rankin has had a notable fascination with film photography, traveling across Europe and the United States, capturing what he deems a deeply “personal narrative…, the untold story of life as an African-American male in a cross-cultural world.”

Career

After he graduated from Morehouse College in 2011, he moved to Florence, Italy for two years. During his time in Italy, Rankin developed his love for the photographic process. From there, he moved to New York City and began interning for V Magazine while also working on a host of editorial and commercial projects. From music collaborations, to designing album art, graphic design, behind-the-scenes footage for New York, Milan, and Paris fashion weeks and product look books for emerging labels, Rankin dedicated himself to the creation of original art across photography, mixed and multi-media platforms.
