Frank Jacob (born 8 August 1984 in Schmalkalden, Germany) is a German historian and japanologist.

Life

From 2004 until 2010, Jacob studied history and Japanese studies. Since 2006, he delayed at the University of Ôsaka, Japan as a research student for one year. In 2010, he was in Ôsaka for a year once more. He made his Ph.D. in Japanese studies in 2012 at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany.

In 2013, he began to publish the serial Comparative Studies from a Global Perspective. Since 2013, he is also the editor of the journal Global Humanities, Studies in Histories, Cultures and Societies, its first Volume will be released in 2015. After his work at the Heinrich-Heine-University of Düsseldorf, Germany, Jacob began his teaching as an assistant professor for Modern History at the Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg, Germany since October 2013. In winter term 2014 he will begin his work as an assistant professor for “Global History from 1500 to Present” at the City University of New York.

Since 2010, Frank Jacob is traveling to conferences around the world to present his papers about different kinds of historical topic areas.

Jacob's fields of attention are, beside the global and modern German history, the modern Japan and the Asian history since 1600. He also deals with the history of secret societies and the comparative and transnational history.

Moreover Jacob is a member of the Military History Working Group (Arbeitskreis Militärgeschichte), the International Association for Comparative Studies of China and the West, the Historical Society for Military History plus the Vereinigung für sozialwissenschaftliche Japanforschung e.V.
