Fortunate Fall is an anarcho-metal band from Santa Monica, California. They wrote, produced, recorded, and distributed all of their music in true DIY fashion under the direction of chief songwriter and producer Wesley Richards.

Contents

Founded in 2009, Richards writes and records all of the band's music underneath his label and recording studio Electrodeath Records with founding members Nathan Evan Williams on drums and Paul Allen on bass. Fortunate Fall's style blends several different elements of extreme metal while leaning heavily on their grindcore and anarchy-metal foundation.

The band is known for their aggressive melodies and subject matter, but also for their DIY ethic and approach to production and touring. In addition to producing and distributing all of their releases under the indie label Electrodeath Records, the band's two major tours were self managed and autonomously funded. They released a number of early demos and split albums with other metal bands from the underground LA metal scene on a series of limited edition cd's and cassettes, developing a devout cult following among the LA area coastal cities of Santa Monica, Venice, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and Long Beach, leading to their first major tour in support of the 2013 release of A Death Related Party,. It was during these early Southern California shows and along their initial coast to coast tour that their reputation for chaotic, aggressive live shows began to spread, often opting to perform in the middle of the floor as opposed to the stage. Following the release of 2014's Camera Obscura, the band embarked on their second nationwide tour, again delivering their unique on-stage antics to the soundtrack of their aggressive high octane music.

Style

Fortunate Fall plays a blend of several musical styles with a focus in death, grind and thrash metal. Fortunate Fall lyrically focuses on anarchist subject matter and social and political commentary. Chief songwriter and producer Wesley Richards is a common contributor to several local Los Angeles anarchist outlets, something that is evident in the lyrical content of Fortunate Fall. Richards draws from a number of eclectic influences, including southern California skate punk and the Houston underground hardcore scene. Several elements are prevalent throughout their releases, one of the most recognizable aspects being the speed at which they play, rarely falling below 250 bpm, showcasing the speed and technical drumming of Williams.
