The Force One is an SUV manufactured by Force Motors, the maker of Traveller minibuses and the Trax utility vehicles in India. The company has entered the SUV segment for the first time.

Force One was launched in 2011 and has received much appreciations from owners. However it does not look modern. At almost 4.8m (16 ft) long and 1.8m (6 ft) wide, the Force One is enormous. Made under the license from Daimler AG the engine is extremely smooth. Suspension, which is fine tuned by Lotus Engineering, UK is claimed to be best in segment.

Models

There are three models available in the market - LX, SX and EX. LX is the high end version which offers 4x4 offroading capability. Both LX and SX versions come with 2.2 litre FMTech 141 PS power engine. EX is lower end model which offers 2.6 litre FTI BSIII engine which develops 82 PS of power. Both LX and SX come with first in the segment feature DRLs (Daytime Running LEDs).

Engine

It’s a 2.2 FMTECH CRDi, 4 Cylinder In-Line 16v DOHC, 2149 cc power plant which is produced under license from Daimler AG. This 2.2 FMTECH CRDi engine generates a peak power of 141 Ps @ 3800 RPM and a peak torque: 321Nm @ 1600-2400rpm. It comes with a 5 speed manual transmission. Its G32/5 Synchromesh Overdrive Gearbox uses an advanced Dual mass flywheel (DMFW) technology.

Acceleration and Performance

There is adequate power to accelerate quickly and is easy to drive with few downshifts. The car reaches a top speed of 160 kmph.

Ride and Handling

The suspension is optimised equally for both on and off-road performance. It has a ground clearance of 145mm.

Music System

The Force One comes loaded with 2-din JVC music system with display colour options, two front and two rear speakers. There is Bluetooth connectivity, USB and Aux-in ports.

Mileage

ARAI certified average mileage is 11.6 kmpl. With city driving conditions, mileage may not exceed 13 kmpl while around 16 for highways. Force One is one of the fuel efficient SUV in the segment.

Safety

The power assisted steering with tilt and collapsible mechanism and protection guard ensures driver safety. There are absolutely no airbags. The front brakes are discs with twin pot four-piston calliper while rear drums are assisted with auto adjuster. One of the unique feature is the over speed warning that warns if the SUV crosses the permissible speed limit. Remote key entry, driver seat warning, door open warning and display, ultrasonic reverse parking sensors for parking in tight spaces, brake pad wear warning along with central looking are other safety features. The SX variant comes with option of ABS and the LX variant comes with ABS and 4-wheel drive system as standard.
